PARTNERS IN PREVENTION

Partners in Prevention (PIP) seeks to provide community-based programs to prevent child abuse. In Summers County, “baby welcome baskets” are distributed to every new parent who requests one upon the birth of their child. The baskets are delivered at a home visit. During the home visit, parents are given a basket of baby items and educational pamphlets. The parent educator conducts a post partum depression assessment of the new mom and is also able to refer families to needed services. This program has been successful in being a gateway to other community based programs for families. PIP funds also support the Parents As Teachers program as well as quarterly community baby showers which incorporate educational topics and fun and games. Items related to child safety (smoke detectors, gates, etc) are included as prizes. New family receives baby welcome basket provided by Partners in Prevention program
